Granny Smith apples

Grandpa Butchie (Ross) told me a story of the day that the Granny Smith apple first came to the Okanagan. At the time he was working at the Sun-Ripe packing house in Kelowna's north end. The Granny Smith's had arrived from San Francisco in several box cars. They had been rejected in San Francisco after they had arrived from Australia (where they originate from). He said that they had been sent to Sun-Ripe to figure out something to do with them. Some of the guys at the plant tried them and loved them. Thus the Granny Smith came to the Okanagan.
